Eva Quirbach is a photographer that specialises in fashion and commercial photography. But if you ask her,
shed rather just hang out with her dogs.
The fashion industry is a superficial place, that sometimes leaves you searching for ways to make a difference. In 2012, Eva adopted her first rescue dog from Spain and that’s where she found purpose in life.
-With this exhibition I wanted to create photos which make your thoughts wander and that can evoke more emotions than my regular fashion photography does. Art that I would like to hang on my own walls.
Technical focus has been on the analoge, black and white feeling.
-Like back in my teenage years where I spent many nights experimenting in the dark room.
All of the dogs modelling in this exhibition are dogs with traumatic pasts that have found new, loving homes.
-I wanted to transform something that has been treated so badly, into a little piece of art where the soul shines through. They are super heros, really, and their resilience and love of life is truly inspiring.
The dogs in this exhibition are part of the group of dogs called sighthounds. Gentle, athletic and soulful, the sighthounds are the fastest dog breeds reaching speeds of up to 65 km/h. Usually referred to as a ’65 km/h couch potato’ because of their calm and goofy nature. Unfortunately, where there is money to be made, animals have a tendency to suffer, and so sighthounds are exploited all around the world for hunting or racing.
Eva focuses on the Spanish greyhounds, the so called Galgos, that are subjected to severe maltreatment in Spain, and has therefore decided to donate 50% of any potential profit from selling FINE art prints to a dog rescue south of Alicante called Galgos del Sol.
